It’s not a suit, it just plays one on the Internet.
I haz a black blazer, but what should I do with it?
I mean, the suit look is totally fine and all, but I’m supposed to be pairing this thing with… what? Jeans? A floral dress maybe?
I guess I haven’t given it a whole lot of thought. Like any other tailored piece, the blazer has remained something of a mystery to this curvy chick. But this one fits me fine, so what have I been waiting for? The December of my Pretty Year and just the second time I’ve worn this? And both times as this snoozefest of a suit.
But where-oh-where can I get some inspiration? If only there were some sort of… information… highway… or superhighway… of some kind.

This look, from a member of ChicTopia, is pretty freakin’ cute.
And then there’s this classic combo, from the eerily familiar Chicisimo:
All I know is, as God is my witness!!! I will never wear this combo (on TPY) (this year) AGAIN!!!!

I’ve actually starting using a blazer instead of a cardigan with almost everything. Over a dress. With jeans, with a jean skirt (today!). Particularly on days when I want to wear jeans and a t-shirt, I can get away with it at work if I don a blazer/jacket instead of a cardigan. Basically use it like you would a cardigan and it’ll get a lot more mileage.
Laura, you know, in theory I knew that, but even this year, I’ve managed to get myself stuck in a few…. well…. not ruts! But shallow grooves, at least! I’ll start wearing it like a cardigan– excellent suggestion.
I started wearing the several blazers in my closet a lot more when I got them taken up to three-quarter length in the sleeves. It made me look less swamped by them (I’m curvy and short), showed off my wrists, and made them look more considered and less work-wearish. I know some people do the same thing just by pushing or rolling up the sleeves, but that doesn’t look right on me.
And maybe this is bad, but I also let go of the idea that I had to be able to do up every button and still look good. I never do up every button, and a blazer that fits me that way and doesn’t hide my shape when it’s open is impossible to find. Now I just get a good fit through the shoulders and arms, and make sure the front sits right and can at least touch!
