I've also been recommended http://www.indidenim.com (though they're considerably more expensive than MakeYourOwnJeans).

Oh yeah, my favorite trick is the one where jeans manage to be too big on my waist and still too tight on my hips.

Make Your Own Jeans, huh? As soon as this challenge is over I am THERE.

I haven't used them myself, but I have a couple of friends who have and swear that they're for real and awesome. And, really, custom jeans for $50~? Well, when I have dough, I'll be giving them a try.

My fit issues are... ha. Yeah. I've given up on off-the-rack slacks of any kind at this point. LB's right fits don't; I have curvy hips but no ass, so they manage to dig into my belly AND somehow fall down at the same time. I was very impressed with that trick, i tell you!

Crystal! I am not at all surprised! I find that the ever-so-euphemistically-termed "urban wear" brands (e.g.: Baby Phat, Apple Bottoms, Dereon) fit me half-decent as a rule. NGL, I have a pair of Dereon in the closet as we speak. I've just never worn it because... at 31 years old... it's a lot of bling on the back pockets there. And the "urban wear" labels coughmarketedtoPOCcough aren't super-well-made IMO, though I'm sure you can find a decent pair or two.

Dottie, I know you're right. Maybe I should check them out and take some photos to post here? I hate when poodle perm people act like our body types are some kinda freakish! Like it must be our bodies that are wrong, never the clothes. Lather, rinse, repeat.

MP, it's a bunch of bull, is what it is!!! It's a total class/race thing. Plus-sized folks, big booty ladies, etc., can't find something "nice" no matter what they pay, and skinny minnies can't get a bargain. Bleh.

I don't know if I ever told you about my Right Fit adventure about a month ago-- I found out they had them at Fashion Bug and after two visits, the size charts lying to me (as they so often do), one totally unhelpful saleslady with a poodle perm who looked at me like she couldn't believe someone built like me actually existed (EFF YOU POODLE PERM) and one totally awesome saleslady with smoker's cough, I ended up buying the Blue 11 Misses Petites. I really should have gone with the 10 based on how they stretch after a few wears, but I'm happy enough that they're my jean du jour.

That doesn't mean I don't have gripes! The waist is four inches bigger than what the chart says it should be. My guess is because some of the straight sizes have a lower rise (all of the plus sizes are a high rise, which is stupid) and it's meant to lay on a wider part of your torso, but what ends up happening is that it doesn't gape on me-- it just lays low in the back so I feel a constant threat of crack exposure. It never actually happens, but I guess the waistband stops about an inch and a half above the crack, so if my shirt isn't long enough, I'm That Girl. I don't know that these were designed with booty in mind, but I appreciate the effort.

I think you should go to Fashion Bug and try them out, now that they have straight sizes. They run hella big (I have no business fitting into a 10/11 anything, so don't be afraid to start at a 2) and you will obviously have waist issues, but it just looks like we're going to have to start taking things in at the waist and hoping for the best.

Unless the rumors are true about booty-friendly designers! But I am broke and have to alter my poor people clothing, so.

You should open that can of worms in that other post. I was singing my skinny chick shopping blues to a friend and she was like you need to upgrade to more expensive clothing lines. In her experience they run smaller. I, not ever having had the luxury to shop beyond the low-moderate price range, was like for real?? Well, if I ever come into some money I guess I will be able to buy clothes off the rack that fit. Until then, I'll be the skinny broke chick in juniors clothes that make me look younger/like I'm dressing too young for my age or swimming in clothes that could use a good tailor.

I'm plus sized, and I can totally simpathize with the curvy dilemma. I liked lane bryant's right fit blue well enough, but they've discontinued the style I liked, and it seems wrong to me that I should have to buy a pair 4 sizes smaller than they recommend to get the right fit that doesn't stretch out so much that they fall off. I've lately taken to just finding jeans that fit legs/booty well enough and just altering them myself at the waist so that they stay on. I love jeans but they're seriously a pain to find a good pair.
