Naturally, I looooooved Halloween as a kid. Scr3w the candy, I was all about the dressing up. In fact, I can remember every single Halloween costume I wore from 1st to 9th grade, (at which point I figured I was a little too old to go begging door-to-door).
You look skeptical. You doubt my total recall of all facts insignificant. Oh, ye of little faith!
- Little Orphan Annie– The plastic costume straight from the drugstore box. What can I tell you? It was 1982.
- Ballerina– Basically my ballet uniform, seen above.
- Cowgirl Barbie– More last-minute plastic.
- NFL Cheerleader– I was getting a little more sophisticated– this one required some coordination.
- Cocktail Waitress– IDK, I glued a plastic cup to a plastic plate.
- Devil– I didn’t tell my super-religious grandma.
- Black Cat– Another leotard, another pair of tights.
- Peacock– Inspired by a feather mask I found, I added blue and purple tights, boa, etc., etc. Feathers flew, lives were lost.
- Southern Belle– Mom and I used a wedding dress pattern and some cheap pink satin. There was a parasol involved.
- Moll– I wasn’t going to go trick-or-treating, but my boyfriend and his friends were going out as gangsters, so I was their moll in a tight black dress and… that was pretty much it.
Then? Nothin’.
Oh, sure, I had elaborate plans every single year, but I never followed through. Until The Pretty Year! Yes, this year, I’m really going out and I’m really dressing up (not in one of these things, though).
No one is safe– I’m even making D dress up. But it’s a big surprise, so you’ll have to wait until Monday to see our costumes.
What about you? Got plans? Got costume? Got candy?

It might be fun to celebrate Halloween. I’ve never dressed up for it before, ever!!
Aww, thank you so much!!
That means a lot to me to know that I have someone rooting for me
I’m dressing as Mary Kate Olsen for Halloween tomorrow along with my coworker who will be Ashley. We’ve got blonde wings, Starbucks cups, huge sunnies, etc.
I can’t wait! Love Halloween!!
I’m going to be a panda!
S, I am shocked and appalled! Do it!!! Panda and Mary Kate– I love it! I’m just afraid there are going to be a lot of Zombie Michael Jacksons and poorly-thought-out Obamas.
Hah! Love the childhood ballet costume pic! Reminds when my mom made me wear my outfit from my tap dance recital and go as a ‘tap dancer” one year. She was usually very creative and got more into costumes than me, but I guess that was an off year. And I can’t wait for the big surprise of D’s costume.
