Punked up ’40’s?
- Swingy black dress with keyhole neckline (last seen here) from ABS Essentials via Loehmann’s– $13.97 on clearance
- Chain from a random Bucktown shop, circa 2005
- Steve Madden “Braad” shoes via DSW– $79

So, in theory, I like mixing pin-up/girly and/or buttoned-down looks with some rock’n'roll accessories. There’s only one problem.
I don’t have rock’n'roll accessories.
Well, not many, anyway.
I’m not 100% sure this outfit works, but if it does– or could– it would look that much better with some hardcore earrings, no? Or something. Okay, not one of those spiky dog-collar bracelets– but something.
I think this is a job for thrifting, for which my friend Kristina offered to be my guide. My tiny budget is getting tighter– spending less than $4 per item is where it’s at.
What do I “need?” Below is my list so far. Feel free to add anything that’s been a staple for you or that you think I could use. I’m sure I won’t get all of these items (unless they magically wind up in the 25-cent bin), but I understand I’ll have to cast a wide net in a place that looks like this.
Okay:
- Tough accessories
- Earrings– lots
- Tan/neutral belt
- White belt/accessories
- Yellow shoes
- Some other sort of flower pin or some such besides my felt one
- A bolder blue pendant necklace
- Yellow accessories in general
- Denim skirt/miniskirt
- Shorts?
- Hat of some sort?
- ???????
- Profit!
Whew… Fashion is tough! Maybe I should stick to math.
