Pending purchases aside, I’ve made a few additional withdrawals from my Pretty Year Account since the last time I updated. I’m pretty much out of store credit, unless I return one or two of my pending purchases from Filene’s or Aerosoles. I did get a $100 gift card from my parents for my birthday, but until Christmas/Hannukah (which will come too late for me to make a difference in my Pretty Year), that’s probably about it in the gift department.
After blowing a fair bit on perfectly acceptable Banana Republic stuff I still (for the most part) have yet to wear, I became a little more cautious– a little more strategic. Hence the accessory-heaviness.
I snagged these green Etienne Aigner shoes from Ross for $17.84 (including tax)– $14.68 in old store credit (did you know you can return things for store credit to Ross pretty much indefinitely, if you keep the receipt?) plus $3.16 in cash. I’m so excited about them! Green shoes! Whee!
I’m not a huge fan of Ross as a rule (a lot of off-brands in very poorly organized racks, though you can definitely still snag a great piece), but I find their shoe sections have a fair amount of mid-priced shoes from Nine West, Steve Madden, Aerosoles and the like. And mostly under $25, even before they go on clearance. These $69-79 shoes were $16.99 before ever having been marked down. Not too shabby.
Speaking of shoes– I spent just a bit more of my FB credit on these gold shoes, seen recently, from Steve Madden ($12 + tax in store credit). It seems like FB takes an EXTRA 70-80% off a whole bunch of shoes every few months or so. Woo-freaking-hoo, man. That’s my kind of discount.
And, I mean– I HAD to use up my Loehmann’s store credit and I NEEDED leopard-print shoes, and STACY AND CLINTON SAY, so, you know… I found these for $14.77 including tax ($12.83 store credit + $1.94 cash) and then they were mine.
You’ve already seen the red Calvin Klein sweater I wore with the leopard shoes. I got it for $12.49 of Filene’s Basement credit (plus tax).
The same day I bought the sweater, I snagged this cheap black vest by some no-name manufacturer (also via Filene’s and purchased with credit).
I have no idea what I’m going to wear it with, but for $1.49 (!!!) it seemed worth playing around with.
So that’s it, for now, until I add in what shoes/belts/H&M swag I decide to keep (the polls are still open).
Total, including tax, after store credit– $5.10.
Pretty Year Budget– $250 – $20.71 (January) = $229.29 – $5.10 (March) = $224.19 left to spend in 2009.
Next on my list? Summer dress(es), fabric to sew myself up some basics, cheap (but hopefully not cheap-looking) jewelry and shorts.

I approve of everything in this post. The green pair I was iffy about at first because I feel like the heel either isn’t high enough or they shouldn’t be slingbacks, but I’ll let them go because they are green and the toe buckle is !!! so yes.
Also, the vest goes with almost anything! Fitted plain Ts! 3/4-sleeve striped boatnecks! A-shirts or sleeveless tops if you’re feeling particularly edgy! Pretty much anything except turtlenecks or white button-downs! The vest has been my elusive would-be item for the past six months; every one I’ve found so far has either been too long, too… wrong, or too flimsy or with a terrible button stance.
I shall live vicariously!
Yeah, the green shoes… That’s not so much my heel height. But then I thought it would not be a bad thing to have something less than 5″ and more than flat for, say, a summer wedding to which I have yet to be invited.
This vest is not *real* durable, but hey– it was less than $2. I’ll try it out this week!
