It’s all here in black and white.

For the longest time, 75% of my wardrobe was black. And, oh, about 20% of it was white. I’ve strayed so far from my roots (and thank goodness!) that I hardly ever wear an entirely black and white outfit anymore. I thought I’d pay a little homage to my old wardrobe– but freshen it up with a few mix’n'match patterns.

Cute! I think I’ll be back to my brights tomorrow, but it’s nice to see that black and white doesn’t have to be as boring as The Wall Street Journal. Except for the wine column, you know, because Dottie and John are just plain awesome.

I used to do all kinds of nonsense– like tie sweaters around my waist!– to “minimize my hips.” The What Not to Wear people are always on about how foolish that is– they say it just makes your butt look bigger. But what it really does is make your waist look bigger– so your hips/butt look smaller by comparison. Of course, you also look about two dress sizes larger overall, but when you’re afraid of attracting unwanted attention, well, it seems a fair compromise. I’m trying to deprogram myself, but it’s not easy!
