I guess I could tell you about my underwear to pad the list, but I’ll just keep my drawers to myself. I tried a couple of necklaces, but they were just distracting with this neckline. Still something was missing… And yes, I know what it was– thank you, Dottie.
Updo! And earrings!
Now I just have to get my ears re-(re-re-)pierced.
I wouldn’t pierce my ears for the longest time. My resistance to ear-piercing is as irrational and nearly as steadfast as my contempt for seafood**. I don’t know what it was, but something about piercing my ears just felt like an obligation. As if just by getting them pierced I’d be committing myself to a whole wardrobe of day earrings, evening earrings, demi-formal tea-length earrings and ear-related cruisewear. It’s the same reason my daughter will never own an American Girl doll.
Eventually, I did get my ears pierced, but was so predictably lazy (or defiant) that I let the holes close up. I repeated this cycle for my wedding, my high school reunion and every occasion for which I wanted to wear one of my two “good” pair of earrings. But I’m ready to get off this crazy merry-go-round. For real this time. This is the year for it.
I’m so far out of the earring loop (OR IS IT HOOP HARDEEHAR) that I have no idea where to start. Suggestions? If you don’t help me, you know I’m just going to end up with these:

**I will have none of it. No, not even fishsticks. NOTHING FROM THE SEA. No, not shrimp. Are shrimp from the sea? I rest my case.

I’m not bour-oh wait!!! Okay, so yes there was vegan cake and kombucha. Thanks for the cute Le Sportsac pouch, I actually really needed something like that for my purse. And this should be the year you get re-pierced! Hey, if I’m wearing dresses you can definitely rock some earrings.
